Top 10 Technology Leaders 2018

In the run-up to publishing the annual Lloyd’s List Top 100 most influential people in shipping on December 14, here are the movers and shakers of the year in maritime next-gen tech:

01 / Roger Holm, president of marine solutions, Wartsila

02 / Geir Håøy, chief executive and president, Kongsberg Gruppen

03 / Juha Koskela, managing director, ABB Marine & Ports

04 / Marius Johansen, vice-president commercial, Wilhelmsen Ships Service

05 / Uwe Lauber, chairman, MAN Energy Solutions

06 / Tom Erixon, president & chief executive , Alfa Laval

07 / Noah Silberschmidt, chairman, Silverstream Technologies
Air lubrication systems have been around for more than five years and have often been dismissed as a gimmick.

However, Noah Silberschmidt’s determination has seen big-name backing this year as Carnival cruiseship Diamond Princess has reported fuel saving of more than the required 5% after trials, and this year Grimaldi Group has placed an order for air lubrication systems on 12 of its newbuilding ro-ros.

Analysis by Lloyd’s Register, DNV GL, Carnival and Shell have given weight to Mr Silberschmidt’s claims. Air lubrication might not be revolutionary but in combination with an alternative fuel source, this technology has come of age.

08 / Steve Price, programme lead, Lloyd’s Register Safety Accelerator

09 / Steinar Oppedal, manager LNG fuel systems, Rolls-Royce Marine

10 / Bjørn Tore Markussen, head of veracity, DNV GL

The annual Lloyd’s List Top 100 most influential people in shipping will be published on 14th December 2018.
