Nor-Shipping 2025: Charting a clearer course for decarbonisation
As one of the largest and most influential gatherings in the shipping calendar, Nor-Shipping continues to bring together the people, ideas and innovation needed to shape the future of our industry. This year marked the 60th anniversary of the event, providing an opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come and how much further we need to go on the journey to maritime decarbonisation.
With the International Maritime Organization’s MEPC 83 meeting fresh in mind, and the next extraordinary session to formally adopt the mid-term GHG reduction measures approaching fast this October, Nor-Shipping was a reminder that the stakes for regulatory compliance have never been higher.
Discussions throughout the week highlighted that energy efficiency technologies (EETs) are ready now and have a key role to play in driving progress and minimising emissions. We were proud to take part again this year, joining thousands of maritime leaders in Oslo for a packed week of panels, industry events and meetings to show how our air lubrication technology is making a real impact today.
Here are our three key takeaways from Nor-Shipping 2025:
1. Decarbonisation is firmly anchored in the now
One of the strongest signals from this year’s event was how grounded in the present the decarbonisation conversation has become. The discussions we had, and those we listened to, showed a clear shift from ambition to action with a strong focus on practical steps, measurable results, and operational insights.
The conversation was rooted in real-world application, including energy efficiency technologies that are already delivering proven, verified results. With multi-layered regulations like CII, EEXI, EEDI and EU ETS, the industry is increasingly turning to proven solutions that support both compliance and commercial competitiveness.
2. Scalable EETs are in the spotlight
The increasingly complex regulatory landscape is driving demand for mature, fuel-agnostic EETs. More shipowners and operators are now recognising that technologies like the Silverstream® System can deliver immediate and scalable performance improvements, regardless of the fuel pathway.
This growing momentum was felt throughout the event – from conversations at our stand to the many panels on decarbonisation where energy efficiency took centre stage. With proven emissions reductions and fuel savings across all major vessel types and segments, we’re showing what’s possible today and helping bridge to the fuels of tomorrow.
3. Collaboration is driving momentum across the industry
Decarbonisation first movers are stepping up to share learnings from their experiences, creating greater transparency and knowledge to accelerate the sector’s energy transition. That spirit of collaboration was on full display during DNV’s Gas Carrier Seaside Panel, where our Director for LNG, Oliver Woodard, joined a line-up of industry experts to discuss the role of EETs in the gas carrier segment. Ollie highlighted that, with multiple installations already in operation, our air lubrication technology is helping gas carriers improve their energy efficiency, meet regulatory compliance and manage lifecycle costs.
Looking ahead
At Silverstream, we believe that clean technologies deliver the greatest impact when supported by strong collaboration. Nor-Shipping gave us the opportunity to deepen existing partnerships and explore new ones — all focused on driving meaningful progress.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by to share insights, ask questions, and spark ideas. Whether you’re interested in learning more about our technology and how we can support your regulatory compliance, or want to exchange views on the industry’s carbon reduction ambition, we’d love to keep the conversation going.
