Ship Management International: Slow steaming to meet energy efficiency targets 'leads to higher emissions'

With the requirement to comply with CII rapidly approaching, and with decarbonisation efforts more generally intensifying, our CEO Noah Silberschmidt recently discussed the long-term roadblocks that “quick fixes” for CII like slow steaming will cause to shipping’s overall decarbonisation efforts.

In contrast, “by maximising emissions reductions and vessel efficiency irrespective of fuel choice, clean technologies will become a cornerstone of all decarbonisation pathways as they hold the keys to long-term sustainable change for shipping and, critically, can prevent our sector pursuing the blind alley of slow steaming – and falling into a trap of its own making.”
