The starting gun has been fired on maritime decarbonisation, and the clock is ticking down for the industry to act on incoming efficiency regulations. Maximising vessel efficiency, irrespective of fuel choice, is crucial for future profitability.

It has therefore become a commercial necessity for shipping to embrace proven clean technologies such as the Silverstream® System, in order to meet new standards of efficiency and performance.

A recognised efficiency solution

Our technology provides assurance: air lubrication is an advocated clean technology under the IMO’s Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) for newbuilds. It will also be one of the key means for current vessels to improve their efficiency rating on the IMO’s Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI).

Additionally, the IMO’s operational Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) demands that ships of 5,000 gross tonnage and above must ascertain their operational carbon intensity, to ensure the continuous improvement of the vessel’s operational emissions output within a specific rating level. The Silverstream® System is well suited to supporting applicable vessels reduce their carbon intensity and meet this regulation. 

Fuel-agnostic, ready for the future

Fuel bills are the vast majority of a ship’s operational expenditure, and this is only set to increase in the coming years. All decarbonisation pathways will rely on fossil fuels as part of the fuel mix for some time yet.

As shipping moves towards the adoption of future fuels that enable it to meet its emissions targets, the industry recognises that these fuels will be more expensive to handle and consume. It is therefore critical to incorporate proven clean technologies in shipping’s decarbonisation journey. 

No matter the fuel, the Silverstream® System will cut fuel bills and emissions and provide operational flexibility to vessels.
