2022 Half Year Progress update

It’s certainly been a busy first half of the year at Silverstream Technologies. The last few months have seen more agreements and partnerships signed, more vessels with our technology on the water, a brand-new website, and much more; all to help advance our vision of air lubrication as a standard on vessels across the global fleet.

Now that we’re halfway through 2022, we wanted to focus on some of the highlights from the last few months and bring everyone up to speed with our current efforts to support more owners and operators to adopt the Silverstream® System.

Partnerships and installation agreements

Most importantly, the first part of the year has seen several major announcements about our technology and partnership initiatives.

In April, we announced a strategic agreement with Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Sdn Bhd (MMHE) to facilitate retrofit opportunities of the Silverstream® System, as well as allow for collaboration, information and knowledge sharing between us and MMHE.

MMHE, one of the most prominent LNGC repair yards in Asia, has more than 45 years’ experience in delivering energy and marine solutions for a wide range of heavy engineering facilities and vessels.

Under the agreement we are already performing joint promotion of the Silverstream® System and other complementary products and services, and MMHE has become an approved installation provider of our technology. This move will see us deepen our links to the LNG market and to Asia.

Then, not long after, we shared the news that Silverstream had reached an agreement with Klaveness Combination Carriers (KCC) to install an innovative new version of our technology on up to 11 of KCC’s vessels, including three CABU II class and eight CLEANBU class vessels.

The deal moves us further into a new, innovative segment of the global fleet. The retrofit installations will commence in early 2023 and take two years to complete. With their capability to carry both liquid and dry cargo and other design improvements, KCC’s vessels emit up to 40% less CO2 per ton-mile compared to standard tanker or bulk carriers in similar trading patterns – a high performance benchmark that will be boosted by the installation of the Silverstream® System.

Scaling and recognition

Our corporate news has also flowed thick and fast this year. In March, we appointed David Colson, Commercial VP, Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) to our Board of Directors.

David has extensive commercial experience in the licensing of technology to shipyards, particularly in Korea and China, as well as invaluable knowledge of owners’ and charterers’ specific requirements, and he will help to deepen our links to the world’s most important shipbuilding region.

Meanwhile, the same month also saw Silverstream be awarded ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System certification which recognises a number of quality management principles including strong customer focus, leadership capabilities, the engagement of teams and staff, and the processes in place to ensure continual improvement.

Being awarded ISO 9001:2015 certification by DNV, one of the industry’s leading class societies, brought Silverstream into a group of more than one million companies worldwide that are certified.

We also were jointly awarded The Engineer’s Collaborate to Innovate Wildcard Award for our partnership with Shell on the Methane Patricia Camila. The award recognised our technology’s environmental credentials and the hard work needed to make the installation a reality.

Continuing to be a part of the industry’s conversations

We have also not stopped in our efforts to communicate our views on clean technology and decarbonisation to the market. Headline articles in Cruise Business, Maritime Executive, Lloyd’s List, XinDe Marine News and, excitingly, being featured in the Financial Times, amongst others, continue to prove the growing interest in maritime decarbonisation and in our technology as a solution.

We have also enjoyed reengaging with colleagues from across the industry at Nor-Shipping and Posidonia, as well as a host of other conferences and meetings now that travel restrictions are easing.

We’re extremely proud and excited by the progress we have made in 2022 so far. We’re looking forward to what lies ahead for the rest of this year, with more partnerships, fleet deals and collaborations to announce, and more opportunities to advance our vision of a decarbonised maritime industry to come.
