Kyriakos joins Silverstream Technologies as a Project Engineer after 5 years working at Houlder Ltd. in the Marine Design Consultancy department. He brings great practical experience in the areas of ship design and engineering as well shipyards and vessel surveys.
In his early career, Kyriakos worked on several new-building and retrofit projects such as the hybrid energy ferry, Victoria of Wight, for Wightlink Ferries, the 100m LNG Ro-Pax Dual Fuel Ferry for CalMac, and on the design installation of Scrubber system for Condor Ferries and Vroon. During this period, he also conducted on-board surveys such as lightship surveys and inclining experiments for DFDS, P&O Ferries, Gosport Ferries, yacht, and offshore platform.
After a sabbatical year when he sailed with the Greek Navy as a 2nd Mechanical Seaman with HS-466, Kyriakos re-joined Houlder Ltd. as an on-site manager on behalf of the owner at Cammell Laird Shipyard in Birkenhead, during the building of the 128m Polar Research Vessel, the RRS Sir David Attenborough. His responsibilities included inspections of steelwork, coatings, outfit, machinery foundations, commissioning, compartment close outs, tank tests and structural tests. The role also involved liaison between the owner and the shipyard, and provision of technical advice to the owner’s on-site project manager.
Kyriakos is certified for LNG membrane tanks from GTT and for Pure Ballast Systems from Alfa Laval. He graduated from Newcastle University in 2014 with a MSc degree in Naval Architecture and a BEng in Marine Engineering. A member of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology, Kyriakos is working towards becoming a Chartered Engineer.
